Who we are

Amelia Hoffert

CEO // Co-Founder

Amelia has been dreaming up creative ventures since childhood. As an only child with a big imagination, she spent her early years crafting handmade artwork to sell in front of the house and sketching out ideas for cozy cafés and flower shops. Even then, she knew she was destined for work that blended creativity, independence, and meaning.

Now, as Co-Founder of Thistledown Farm, Amelia has turned those dreams into something deeply rooted—both literally and figuratively. Alongside her mom Martha (and best friend), she’s helping bring the Hoffert family back to its farming roots, growing gourmet mushrooms with care, intention, and a whole lot of love.

Amelia handles the creative, business, and marketing side of the farm, driven by a passion for fresh, healthful food and a desire to bring something special to her small-town community. At Thistledown, every mushroom is grown with attention to detail, quality, and sustainability—and she’s proud to be part of a local movement that celebrates the beauty of thoughtful, small-scale farming.

Martha Hoffert

Head of Production // Co-Founder

After 35 years in the horticulture industry, Martha felt it was time for a new chapter—one that brought her back to her roots. Teaming up with her daughter Amelia, she co-founded Thistledown Farm, blending decades of growing experience with a shared vision for healthy, small-scale, and thoughtfully grown food.

Martha’s love for plants and farming started early, growing up on her family’s dairy farm. That connection to the land never left her. After earning her degree, she built a long and successful career in horticulture, eventually becoming Head of Production in the Perennial Department at a leading Michigan nursery.

Today, Martha brings her wealth of knowledge to every part of Thistledown’s growing process. Her hands-on care and dedication to quality are at the heart of the farm, ensuring that every gourmet mushroom we offer is grown with precision, freshness, and a whole lot of pride.

From soil to harvest, Martha’s touch can be felt in every step—and we wouldn’t be Thistledown without her.
